Pastors & Elders

James Johnston
Senior Pastor – Elder

Pastor Jim is the Senior Pastor at TBC. His wife Lisa grew up in Oregon and loves the beautiful Northwest. They were married in 1996 and have four children. Lisa is one of the teachers in the Journey Flock, an adult class at TBC that is just for women.

Pastor Jim loves God’s Word and God’s people. As TBC’s main preacher, he is committed to expository preaching, listening carefully to the text in context so we hear what the Holy Spirit is saying in each passage. Most of his sermon series take us through books of the Bible. Pastor Jim enjoys caring for people, leading our staff, setting vision, and serving as one of our elders. He feels most fulfilled when he sees people growing in their love for Jesus and each other.

Pastor Jim’s parents were missionaries in France, but he mostly grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. He is a graduate of Wheaton College (B.A.) and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (M.Div., Ph.D.). He served churches in Illinois and Minnesota before coming to TBC in 2009.
