TBC Ministry Overview
| As the saints at TBC are "equipped to do the work of the ministry," over 50 distinct ministries offer a diverse range of opportunities to engage their unique gifts. Then, as their gifts are exercised in the context of these ministries, other saints are equipped and put into service. Through this process, the body of Christ is being built up, as we press on toward spiritual maturity: the unity of the faith, and the knowledge of Christ. If you haven't yet found a place to get plugged in, or even if you have, click on one of the ministries listed above, and glimpse what the Lord is doing here in Tulsa and around the world. These things are "marvelous in our eyes." |
| Child Evangelism Fellowship Ministry | |||||
![]() |
In the U.S. today 85% of children do not attend church or Sunday school. TBC has a desire to reach some of these children for Christ and began partnering with Child Evangelism Fellowship to begin Good News Clubs in some elementary schools. Our first Club began at Salk Elementary School in March 2004. We meet there each Tuesday afternoon. In the fall of 2004 we began a Club at Key Elementary School on Thursday afternoons. Both of these schools are within one-half mile of Tulsa Bible Church. In the fall of 2005 a Club was begun at Hodson Elementary School in Owasso. Each week teams of dedicated volunteers arrive at these schools to share the love of Jesus and teach His Word to the children.
| The Clubs, which meet in the gym or a classroom, begin with a snack time. We then sing Scriptural songs, have a Bible lesson, learn a Bible verse, hear a segment of a continuing missionary story, and play a review game. The main emphasis of the Bible lesson is evangelistic, but it always includes application for Christian growth for the saved child. It is such a blessing to hear the children memorizing Scripture verses. We know that God promises that His Word will not return void. There is also a time for individual counseling if a child desires to know more about receiving Christ as their savior. During this time many children come and ask for prayer about problems they are facing in their families or at school. It is a privilege to be able to pray with them about their situation. We have had several children pray to receive Christ during the past year. If they do not have a Bible, we will give them one. What an opportunity to teach about Moses and the Ten Commandments (a basis for determining right and wrong) in a public school, when they are no longer allowed to be posted in many schools. Each week about seventy children are ministered to in these three schools. We would like to expand this ministry to more elementary schools and could easily do so if we had more volunteers. Can you imagine the impact this ministry could have if we had volunteers to hold Clubs in twenty schools? Another aspect of the CEF ministry is Christian Youth in Action (CYIA). This is a ten day training that takes place in early summer in Oklahoma City. It is the Teaching Children Effectively Level I training done during a shortened time period. This prepares young people to teach in 5 Day Clubs. 5 Day Clubs are very much like Good News Clubs, except that they meet for one hour for five days in a row. These are held in homes, day cares, apartment complexes, parks, etc. In order to attend the training, you must be 13 years old or older or have completed 7th grade. Young people can raise support if they desire. TBC encourages members to have 5 Day Clubs in their homes. "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." Matt 9:37-38 | |||||

| Choir Ministry | ||||
| There are many opportunities at Tulsa Bible Church to be involved in the music ministry. Starting at the cherubs all the way up to the adult choir there is a place for you. The adult choir has hit a growth spurt this year. We are now buying 65 copies of music & using them all. What a blessing to have such faithful servants of the Lord share their talents each week. The choir works diligently for almost 2 hours every Wednesday night. It definitely shows as they sing forth praises to our Lord. The Youth Choir has done an incredible job. Their harmony is beautiful, what a joy to see the next generation singing praises to our Lord. We were also bursting at the seams with our children's choirs this year, and felt a need to split the 3rd - 6th graders. The 3rd & 4th graders are running around 40 Juniors. They love to sing and find out how they can apply the words of the songs to their every day life. 30 very excited 1st & 2nd grade children meet every week. They are doing an incredible job. Our cherubs have a new leader this year. She is doing a great job training 27 little hearts to sing songs of worship to our Lord. | ||||

| Christian Education Ministry | ||||
Christian Education at Tulsa Bible Church includes Sunday School classes for all children from infants up through 6th grade. This ministry has three important goals:
| ||||
| Our Nurseries (Infants through 2-year-olds) are staffed mainly by volunteers who work once a month. All workers are regular-attending adults and qualified young people who have attended for at least 6 months and have passed a background check. Love, care and playtime abound for these precious children. The older toddlers are taught short Bible lessons each week to expose them to the joy of God's love at an early age. | ||||
| The Pre-Primary classes (3-year-olds through Kindergarten) are taught by dedicated teachers and monthly helpers. These classes focus on teaching children the Bible through Scripture-based songs, flannel story board lessons and puppets. Each class has set goals for specific song and Scripture memorization. | ||||
| In the Primary Grades (1st through 6th grade) we have a staff of teachers who have taught children Sunday school classes for as few as four years and as many as 15 years. The teaching material is God's Word. We have found that the Bible is applicable to the lives of children of all ages. And by using the Bible as our primary lesson book, children learn valuable skills in studying God's Word. By the time children have completed the 6th grade, they will have learned biblical teaching, doctrine and application from Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, Jonah, Luke, John and Acts. One of the capstones for this age is the building of a Tabernacle replica and the celebration of the Seder meal and the fulfillment of Jesus as the Messiah through its celebration. This curriculum lays valuable ground work as children begin to mature into young adults and learn important teaching from the New Testament Epistles. | ||||

| Church Services Ministry | ||||
Church Services Ministries fall under the Worship Council at Tulsa Bible Church. Elders oversee the Worship Council and the deacons oversee the following areas of service:
| ||||
| Elders, deacons, Tulsa Bible Church members and regular attendees can and do serve in most of these areas with the exception of communion which is served by the Elder and Deacon Boards. | ||||
| The underlying objective is to create an atmosphere, which allows for the best possible experience for those who worship with our body at Tulsa Bible Church. Our Ushers and Greeters are often the first contact visitors will make, when attending TBC for the first time. They are fully aware of the impact they can have on a visitor's overall experience, and for this reason take their responsibilities very seriously. Communion Coordinators recruit members of the Elder and Deacon Boards to serve the first and third Sundays of each month and on special occasions. They oversee all aspects of the communion service to ensure a worshipful experience. Baptism requires the provision of a properly prepared baptismal (warm water!) and the supply of an adequate number of robes and towels for the candidates. Many people work behind the scenes as baptism sponsors, helping candidates prepare their testimonies for this most special occasion. It takes special people with a high tolerance for stress to carry out the Audio/Visual effects of our worship services. They work long hours to ensure that all who worship at TBC can hear the Word spoken and sung and see the visuals on the overhead screens 'on cue'. | ||||
On occasion, my responsibilities require that I arrive at the church building early before attendees arrive. But the building is anything but quiet and still. Rather, it is alive and buzzing with those who are busy getting ready to fulfill their ministry to the saints of TBC and to the Lord. We often take for granted that the doors will be open, the lights will be on, the temperature will be comfortable, the coffee will be hot and someone will have a prepared lesson to challenge us. It is good to be reminded that church doesn't just happen without the many efforts of many willing and faithful servants. If anyone desires to serve in any of these areas they should contact the men below.

| Counseling Ministry | ||||
| Do you need help? | ||||
| In today's complex world, God's counsel is needed and always faithful. God has provided everything necessary for individuals to know Him and to live in a way that is pleasing to Him (2 Peter 1:2-4). God promises to bless those who obey His instructions in the Bible (James 1:22-25). The one who follows God's instructions can have hope, contentment, and answers to handle all the pressures of life. | ||||
| What kind of counseling? | ||||
| Tulsa Bible Church (TBC) offers marriage, individual, and family counseling to regular attendees. This counseling is based on the Bible. We believe that God's Word is sufficient to answer the problems of life, and is superior to any other source of counsel. | ||||
| Who counsels? | ||||
| Counselors are pastors and other qualified individuals trained in biblical counseling. | ||||
| What does it cost? | ||||
| The counseling is free. TBC provides the facilities, and the counselors volunteer their time and services following God's example of bestowing grace freely. | ||||
| When will I be counseled? | ||||
| Counseling is available weekdays by appointment. If a counselor is not immediately available, there may be a waiting period. | ||||
| How long will counseling last? | ||||
| Normally counseling sessions last 60-75 minutes each week for approximately 10-12 weeks. The number of sessions may be shortened or lengthened depending on your progress. | ||||
| Will my sessions be confidential? | ||||
| Everything is strictly confidential except where, in the counselor's judgment, there is a biblical requirement to involve others, for example in the case of criminal activity. | ||||
| Homework | ||||
| We assign homework between counseling sessions to ensure lasting change. Therefore, weekly assignments must be faithfully completed in order to continue counseling. | ||||
| Where do I begin? | ||||

| Drama Ministry | ||||
| The drama ministry uses the medium of drama to communicate the truths of God's Word through plays, short vignettes, or videos. Rather than try to re-enact Scripture, which is impossible, we create fictional stories based on Biblical history, and invest much Bible study research in the process. This medium provides great potential for moving commentary on the events of the Bible. Other fictional drama's are not based on Biblical history, but built around Biblical truth. The purpose of everything we do is to glorify God by turning the attention of the audience to the person and character and ministry of our Lord Jesus. To this end, we strive for excellence in both material and performance. Those involved in leadership are Brian Shoop, Mark Gullickson, Maureen Gullickson, Cheri Biggs, and Joanne Heck. We welcome the involvement of interested saints, both in and behind the scenes. | ||||

| Friendship Families Ministry | ||||
| The Friendship Family Ministry is a ministry that reaches out to International Students at Tulsa University. Each fall/spring semester we submit names of TBC families that are interested in being a host "family" to international students at TU. The students at TU have filled out forms and have requested a "family." The TBC family then invites the student over for dinner, out to family activities etc. The goal is to show them the love of Christ in a family and as the family displays the love of Christ there comes the opportunity to tell the students about the Gospel. Our desire of course would be that they would accept Christ. Even if they don't accept Christ while they are here, many seeds are planted and they will take these with them as they return to their home country. Our prayer is that many from TBC will open their hearts and homes to share the Gospel with those from around the world. | ||||

| Home Educators Fellowship Ministry | |||||
![]() |
The primary purpose of our group is to provide support for mothers who attend Tulsa Bible Church and who educate their children at home. We enjoy informative monthly moms meetings throughout the school year. These meetings include small group sharing and prayer, a devotional, a business meeting which includes information about upcoming activities, and a program. Our programs, which utilize members and outside speakers, are chosen to encourage and equip homeschooling moms through practical educational information as well as spiritual growth. Some of our programs have included Computers in the Home School, Educational and Service Activities for Older Students, and Stimulating an Appreciation for Art and Music in the Home.
| We provide a monthly announcement sheet detailing all of our group's upcoming activities and other community and homeschool activities, which might be of interest to members of our group. "Pearls of Wisdom" is our monthly newsletter with a devotional, an encouraging article, and practical helps for moms. A Moms-In-Touch prayer group meets immediately before each monthly meeting. Field trips, service projects, group events, and educational opportunities are provided for our students. Field Trips have included New Life Ranch Creation Outing, Oklahoma Aquarium, Starbase, Port of Catoosa Museum, Newt Graham Lock and Dam, Civil War Re-enactment, and the U.S. Marine Band performance. We do a minimum of two service projects each year. Our service projects have included helping sort and pack food for the Salvation Army Christmas food distribution, Christmas card for servicemen and women, and a Valentine's Day nursing home project. Other events have included school pictures, a Christmas craft, couple's barbeque and Valentine banquet, moms' dinner, oral presentations, standardized achievement testing, used curriculum sale, and ice skating. Our group also participates in the Braum's Buddies and Pizza Hut reading incentive programs. We praise the Lord for His faithfulness as our group ministers through encouragement, prayer, equipping, and educational activities for those families who have been called to educate their children at home. | |||||

| Hope Pregnancy Ministry | ||||
| HPC is a non-profit agency provided as a free service to young women in our community. The center is based on Christian principles and because we believe God is the giver of live, we choose life and desire to lead others to make that choice, also. In 2005 we saw almost 2,000 young women at our center. We had over 40 young women who went through our Grace program, to obtain a high school diploma. Many more went through our Earn While You Learn Program to learn how to become better parents. We also had 11 women make professions of faith and numerous others were presented the Gospel. The volunteers who are trained to offer direction and support have the opportunity to suggest positive alternatives for these women. We need volunteers who are willing to give 4 hours a week of their time to minister to lost and discouraged women. | ||||

| Marriage Enrichment Ministry | ||||
| Tulsa Bible Church offers periodically a 12 week training class using materials called Christian PREP, a Biblically based marriage course designed to teach skills and attitudes leading to more successful marriages. There are several barriers to marital oneness which hinder our growing closer with our spouse. Three of these are sin and selfishness, fear of rejection, and not knowing what better to do. This course will not automatically enable you to overcome all of these hindrances but will bring a greater understanding of each of them and help equip you to deal more effectively with them. We explore Scriptural truths and practical wisdom to help develop communication and problem solving skills. Other crucial topics are covered as well, including hidden issues which need to be discussed in a safe environment, expectations, commitment, forgiveness, friendship and spiritual intimacy. True discipleship and being a bondservant of Christ and to one another must begin and flourish in our homes as a basis for our lives and ministry. We believe that there is room for growth in all marriages, even the good ones. | ||||

| Moms In Touch International | ||||
| Brief History of Moms In Touch International | ||||
| In the fall of 1984, Fern Nichols' two oldest children of four were entering junior high school. Her heart was heavy and burdened with concern as she knew they would be facing their greatest test in resisting immoral values, vulgar language, peer pressure and philosophies that would undermine their faith. She cried out to the Lord asking Him to protect them, enable them to see clearly the difference between right and wrong, and make good decisions. The burden to intercede for her boys was overwhelming. She asked God to give her another mom who felt the same burden, and who would be willing to pray with her concerning their children and their school. God heard the cry of her heart and led her to another mom who shared her burden. Others were invited to come and they began meeting the following week for prayer. This was the beginning of Moms In Touch International - moms in touch with God, their children, their schools and one another through prayer. As moms began sharing what God had been doing in their lives, and in the lives of their children through prayer, other groups began to spring up. Today, there are Moms In Touch groups in every state of the United States, and representatives in over 110 foreign countries around the world. | ||||

| Orchestra Ministry | ||||
| The orchestra has an important role in Tulsa Bible Church ministry through their music. In addition to music specials, the combined youth/adult orchestra provides leadership in their role of praise and worship during select services. The orchestra looks forward to ministry opportunities at TBC. With opportunities for ministry, we also look forward to not only growth for the music ministry, but to the utilization of the skills and training given to us as instrumental musicians; the fulfillment of the command for not only daily praise and worship, but in helping to lead in the corporate worship in the church. We strive to incorporate our daily worship as musicians/believers into the corporate worship on Sunday mornings, where the sound of voice and instruments join together in unison in an offering given over to God that reflects the grace given to us. | ||||

| Prayer Corps Ministry | ||||
| Thanks for your interest in the Tulsa Bible Church Prayer Corps ministry. Christ is our example as He sits at the Father's right hand interceding for us. Christ's focus is on doing His Father's will, likewise may our focus in praying for Christ's church be: "God's will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." As people worship and God's Word is preached, mighty and true prayer teams meet to raise up our dear pastors and saints. Prayer and the Word of God are inseparable and go together. God speaks to us through his Word and we speak to God through prayer. God's word supplies us with material for prayer. Acts 1:14 says: They all met together continually for prayer. What a privilege we have to meet and pray freely together, let us never take this for granted! Certainly the beauty of a praying ministry is that the one and only true God we serve has unlimited power. My we latch on to this power "as the deer pants for streams of water, so I long for you, O God." Ps 42:1 During each Sunday Worship service, Prayer Corps groups meet in the Discovery room to pray for that service. On Wednesday evening a Prayer Corps group meets in the Discovery room to pray for that service and the many activities going on at that time such as Awana, Choir & Orchestra. The commitment is to pray in the group once each month (twelve meetings each year) throughout the year for the service time you have chosen. The 5th Sunday only has five services to pray for each year. | ||||

| W.O.W. Women of the Word | ||||
| Tulsa Bible Church offers Bible study to all women (college age and up) on Tuesday mornings during the school year. The purpose and focus of WOW is to follow Colossians 3:16 "Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you with all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts." Our goal is to proclaim Christ in order to help women grow and mature in Christ-likeness. Our Tuesday morning study begins with small groups discussing the lesson and homework for the week and prayer. Mid morning coffee and snacks allow us time to fellowship and deepen our friendships. We continue with singing and biblical teaching. Women learn together, pray together, and encourage one another. | ||||
