WHAT IT IS
Connection Sunday is an opportunity for us, as the body of Christ, to minister to each other in a small group setting (meeting in homes throughout the area). This is done through edification & encouragement, mentoring, building up, serving one another, and helping each other become more like Christ. Please see below for resources and a brief overview of TBC’s vision for Connection Sunday.
GOALS
-
Fellowship, prayer, Scripture, worship, evangelism and love becoming a “practicing” vs. “positional” member of the Body of Christ
-
Not an event to attend but a family to belong to, a “community”
-
Dealing with people in a grace filled and mercy minded way
-
Provide ministry structure / format with flexibility “The primary strategy is not to offer another
-
Bible study but rather to encourage the practice of Christian life in community”
OBSTACLES
-
Busy schedules and over-commitment of time
-
Many good ministry commitments & opportunities
-
Hard to be vulnerable, transparent and real
-
Individual selfishness, cultural and generational differences
STRUCTURE
-
Set aside first Sunday night of each month for small group meetings in homes, no evening church service
-
Small group is flexible – Need a host home to facilitate discussion and prayer time. Groups can form in many ways:
-
Flock Care Groups led by “caring couples” – possibly geographic
-
Zip Code Area Groups – need to identify/recruit host leaders
-
Natural “affinity” ministry groups – Scouts, choir, topical, friends etc.
-
Individuals to select group type that best meets their needs
-
Individual meetings to be flexible to accommodate the needs of group but will have some structure to accomplish spiritual/ministry objectives.
-
Suggested “discussion questions” for each month to be provided to facilitators via website and published in bulletin a week ahead and on Connection Sunday for reference.
